Locock Cup 2nd Round

 

            Last week saw a break from the Torbay R.G.B Snooker League and the second round of the Locock Cup played with several of the top sides falling to lower opposition.

Preston Cue G are safely through to the third round as they eased past Division One side Torquay Squash D by 52 points whilst several Premier sides went out as they struggled to make up their handicaps.


Premier leaders
St Annes A struggled to pull back a 300 point handicap, as Brixham Cons B opening two players played out of their skin as Mark Wills lost the first frame by only four points without the handicap to Alan Tunney, whist Brixham team mate Chris Scales beat Adrian Tocknell by five points without the handicaps to put Brixham Cons B in control of the match and through to the next round as they won by 165 points.


Riley’s A also failed to make up their 265 point handicap despite Paul Hoare compiling a break of 49 in the second frame as fourth Division pace setters Preston Cue E held out to win by 51 points whilst Preston Cue A was another Premier side to go out as they pulled back their handicap by the third frame, but Potc A’s Justin Callard won the final two frames with out the handicaps as he beat James Lee by five points in the fourth and beat Ben Francis in the final frame by 45 points without the handicap to win the match for Potc A by nine points.

Riley’s Q went threw to the next round as they pulled back their 145 point handicap as they swept aside Division Fours Riley’s Z by 120 points whilst Premier side Dawlish Cons A pulled back a 160 point handicap as Andy Hill won the final frame by 111 points without the handicap as they beat Division two side Torquay Deaf A by 41 points whom Martin Brown won the first frame.


Division One pace setters
Newton Cons A recovered from their 160 point handicap as they beat Division Three leader Teignmouth BL A by 55 points whilst Division One side Hookhills A pulled back their 60 point handicap to beat Division Three side Brixham BL B by 62 points.


Division One side St Marychurch Cons A scraped through to the next round as they lost three of the five frames but scored enough points in the other two to pull back their 40 point handicap to win by eight points against Division Two side Paignton Cons A whilst St Annes B pulled back their 65 point handicap to beat Division Three side Torwood Cons A by 64 points.


Division Four’s Dave Lomax won the fourth frame by 15 points without the handicap as Teignmouth BL B held on to their 90 point start to beat Division One side Preston Cons A by 23 points whilst Division One side Torquay Squash A came back from their 60 point handicap to beat Third Division side Newton Cons Z by 10 points.


Division One side Paignton Cons B came back from their 60 point handicap to beat Division Three side Preston Cue H by 94 points whilst Division Three side Brixham BL A came from behind to beat Division Four side Ellacombe Cons C by 16 points.


In an all Division Four tie the bottom two teams got drawn against one another with Preston Cue C coming out on top as they beat Royal Torbay Yacht Club A by 17 points whilst the game between St Annes E and St Marychurch was postponed and will be played in the coming week.

Torbay R.G.B Snooker League week 13

 

 

Premier

 

 At the top of the Torbay R.G.B Winter Snooker League,  Riley’s A had their lead at the top of the Premier cut to a point as eight placed Brixham Cons A ended their 32 match unbeaten run dating back to 28th May 2009.


Andy Neck scored a break of 40 in the opening frame, whilst Andy Astin scored a break of 39 in the final frame as they won their only frames on the night as they went down 4-2 to Brixham Cons A who has moved five points clear of the relegation places after the win.


Adrian Tocknell compiled a break of 46 in the opening frame to set second placed St Annes A on the road to victory as they beat Riley’s Q 4-2 who slipped to fifth place after the defeat whilst James Lee won the final two frames and compiled a break of 54 in the final frame as third placed Preston Cue A came from 3-1 down to draw 3-3 with bottom side St Annes B.


St Annes F moved up a place to fourth as they beat seventh placed Preston Cue F 5-1 whilst Dawlish Cons A moved up a place to sixth as they won the final two frames to beat ninth placed Central Cons A 4-2 who are five points adrift of safety from relegation.

Division One

 

            In Division One, leaders Newton Cons A  returned to form to extend their lead at the top of the table to nine points as they beat bottom side St Annes D 5-1 who are four points adrift of safety from relegation.


Upton Social A stayed in second place on games won as they beat Torquay Squash D 4-2 who remains in seventh place whilst St Annes E moved level on points with second placed Upton as they beat ninth placed Preston Cons A 5-1 who are two points adrift of their closest rival.


Fourth placed St Marychurch Cons A had to come from 3-1 down to earn a 3-3 draw with Torquay Squash A who moved up a couple of places to sixth whilst fifth placed Paignton Cons B beat Hookhills A 5-1 who slipped a couple of placed to eighth after the defeat.

Division Two

 

              In Division Two, leaders Preston Cue G lost their one point advantage at the top of the table, and remained top on games drawn as they drew 3-3 with Potc A who moved up a place to seventh and out of the relegation places.


Torquay Squash C moved up to second and level on points with the leaders as they beat Palace Place B 5-1 who slipped a place to eight after the defeat whilst Cliff Ritson a scored a break of 24 in the fourth frame, but could not stop his side Riley’s E drawing 3-3 with fourth placed Central Cons C whom Paul Goncalves scored a break of 30 in the final frame to earn the draw.


Steve Higginson compiled a break of 32 in the second frame to move to the top of the breakmasters, as his side Upton Social B drew 3-3 with bottom side Torquay Deaf A who are ten points adrift at the bottom of the table.

Division Three

 

               In Division Three last weeks leaders Brixham BL B lost their three point advantage at the top, but remained at the top on games won as they lost 4-1 to second placed Teignmouth BL A who have moved level on points after Lee James compiled a break of 32 in the final frame.


Brixham BL A stayed in third place, but are five points adrift of the promotion places as they beat Preston Cue H 3-2 whom Andy Morrison scored a 22 clearance in the final frame as they moved off the bottom of the table despite the defeat whilst Torquay Squash B moved up a place to fourth as they came from 2-1 down to beat Newton Cons Z 3-2 who slipped a place to fifth despite John Durham compiling a break of 32 in the second frame.


Shawn Stevens scored a break of 32 in the second frame, his seventh qualifying break of the season as sixth placed St Marychurch Cons C beat eighth placed Torwood Cons A 3-2 whilst Brixham Cons B stayed in seventh place but pulled five points clear of the relegation places as they beat Kirkham Street A 4-1 who slipped to the bottom of the table after the defeat.

            In Division Four, leaders Preston Cue E stretched their lead at the top to nine points and maintained their 100% record as they hammered Roundham B 5-0 who slipped a couple of places to fifth after the defeat.


Second placed Riley’s Z moved three points clear of the chasing pack as they beat bottom side Preston Cue C 4-1 whilst Hookhills B moved up a place to third as they beat Ellacombe Cons C 4-1 who slipped a place to sixth after the defeat.


Teignmouth BL B moved up a couple of places to fourth as they thrashed the Royal Torbay Yacht Club A 5-0 who slipped a place to ninth whilst St Marychurch Cons B  stayed in seventh place as they beat Preston Cue D 3-2 who moved up a place to eighth despite the defeat.

Captains are reminded that result cards have to be filled in at the beginning of the match and should be received by first post the following Monday morning, and that matches should be started at 7.30pm.


Captains are also reminded that they are responsible that their team travel to venues in suitable clothing as some clubs have dress codes and have rules of conduct which must be maintained at all times.


The Committee will be monitoring team’s behavior as there seems to be more verbal complaints coming in about bad sportsmanship and unsporting behavior, anyone found guilty of such behavior will be fined or banned from the League.
